STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF I-40 STOP DATA

CONCLUSION

The Coconino County Colorable Claim Violator Study collected data to adequately catalogue the racial and ethnic identities of drivers traveling along I-40 within the boundaries of Coconino County. According to study findings, white drivers comprise approximately 82 percent of the population of drivers committing motor vehicle violations and minority drivers comprise 18 percent of the violator population. This racial/ethnic breakout is consistent for the violator population as well as the nonviolator population. This racial/ethnic breakout is also consistent for eastbound and westbound drivers committing motor vehicle violations. It can be concluded that race and ethnicity is not a significant factor in defining who violates motor vehicle laws on I-40 in Coconino County, Arizona.

Based on this data analysis, we would expect to see statistically similar numbers based on race and ethnicity for known stops along I-40 in Coconino County.
